Innsbruck, situated at the river Inn 575 metres above sea level, is the capital of Tirol. The city can offer a perfect combination of history, skiing, art, culture, shopping and night life. In 1964 and 1976 the Winter Olympic Games took place here. This fact has made Innsbruck a popular destination for all kinds of winter sports.
Innsbruck has many impressive buildings and sights worth a visit. The castle of Ambras situated on a cliff at the river Inn has a fantastic collection of paintings, armour and weapons dating back to the 15th century. The castle was the home of the earls of Tirol.
Also worth a visit are the Hofchurch, the Silver Chapel, the Town Tower and the Maximillianeum.
We also recommend that you take the cable car up to the Seegrube (2000 m. above sea level) and enjoy the fantastic view of Innsbruck and the mountains surrounding the city.
